Yesterday my friend and I were going around car showrooms as he had asked me to help him buy a SUV car. We went through many showrooms but the car which we both liked the most was the MG Hector but he was quite hesitant to buy the car and when I asked him why it was so he gave me vague answers like it’s a Chinese brand and this and that. I gave it a lot of thought and researched everything there is to know about this car and the others we had seen. The results were surprising. There are many myths about this and when I told him it gave him confidence and make the correct purchase so I thought of sharing these debunking of myths with you all as well to help you make informed decisions.
MG is a British automotive marque founded by Cecil Kimber in the 1920s, and M.G. Car Company Limited was the British sports car manufacturer that made the marque famous. Best known for its open two-seater sports cars, MG also produced saloons and coupés, with engines up to three litres in size. It has always produced strong and durable cars. Over the years it has managed to keep its reputation the same but during recent years peoples trust seems to be shaken due to political affairs. In spite of bringing top of the class variants, people are resistant to buy MG cars in India only because of sole reason being that it has been purchased by a Chinese company. The company which purchased MG is SAIC Motor which is one of the Fortune Global 500 Company (ranking 36) and 7th largest automobile company. This company has been in place since the 1940s and has a range of offerings. SIAC Motor has also had joint ventures with company like Volkswagen and General Motors. It is because of the current tension between our countries, i.e., India and China people are hesitating to buy the car and the banning of Chinese apps have just added fuel to the fire.
This has lead to a wave of uncertainty in the minds of the consumer. The main concern in people’s mind is what happens when they purchase a car for MG but government later on bans it? What happens to the cars that have been purchased? Will there be spare parts available for it? Will there be customer support? Will they be service centres for the cars? These are the questions which have proven to be a problematic area and also a fact that the company is now owned by a Chinese manufacturer, are the products even reliable or durable? People in India have a thinking that any product from China will not last long and so this conception is hampering with the MG cars too.

The CEO & President of MG India Rajiv Chaba knows the Indian market well. He was the only president of General Motors who delivered profits in India so it is safe to assume he knows the Indian market and consumers mind set well. When a company is under the hands of good leadership there are less things to worry about. When it comes to manufacturing, MG has set up its manufacturing plant in India itself in Gujarat so its not going to shut down anytime soon. People worry about the parts being imported from China but that’s the case for almost all types of industries. Everyone imports their parts from China.
MG has come up with cars which are easy on the pockets of consumers and provide top quality features. It has entered from the SUV type with offering its MG Hector (5-Seater) starting from Rs. 12.83 lakhs onwards. When we go on to see the top end model with all the features the on road price comes out to be Rs. 20 lakhs. It is able to beat the offerings of its competitors like Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier and Hyundai Creta on almost all the grounds. It is the greatest is size, has a good ground clearance, offers a good driving experience, has a panoramic sunroof, huge boot size and above all that its an internet car. It has come up with top of the line innovation in the car. You can turn on the car from your mobile phone, you can track your car, if you have a driver and want to check if he’s not roaming around in your car you can also set a perimeter around the car and if it goes outside the range set by you, you get a notification on your phone for the same. You can also see your driving analysis to see if you are going too fast or if you are pressing too hard on the brakes. The car also has a system installed in it to see if you have been driving a long time and by chance sleep while driving it notifies you for the same. It has taken care of safety as well. MG has come up with servicing models as well to cater to servicing needs of the customer. It has three different plans of Rs. 8,000, Rs. 33,000 and Rs. 50,000 depending upon your use. If your daily travelling is very less go for the 8K plan and if its very high go for the 50K plan. This amount you have to pay up front but then you don’t have to pay anything for the next 3 years.

MG has recently come up with Hector Plus for families and you will be shocked to know there isn’t much of price differentiation in both. It offers all the features provided in Hector with seating for one extra person. All of its cars are BS-VI compliant and are available in petrol and diesel variants with automatic and manual transmission. MG has also come up with an electric car – ES ZV. The driving of that car is super smooth and cones with very low maintenance. On a full charge it can go up to a range of 350kms. It also comes with back up chargers but can power it for about 25-30 kms only. You can charge this car at your home where MG installs the whole charging unit for you and connects it to your electricity unit and the bill for the same gets added to your electricity bill. A full charge only costs you around Rs. 700.

MG has put in all it efforts to provide the customers with the best possible car at the possible price so don’t let some myths take away an opportunity from you and make you regret later.
